Dougherty Leadership Development Institute
Designed Albany ARC, by Leadership Albany alumni, Rehabilitation Services and members of the private business sector to integrate persons with disabilities and non-disabled persons into the leadership community and
empower them to have even more influence over their lives.
Modeled after the Albany Leadership Program: participants from the community include ten persons with no disabilities and ten with developmental or
physical disabilities. The DLDI Program integrates persons with disabilities and without disabilities into the leadership community and empowers them to have an even greater influence over their lives and the lives
of others.
The twenty class members are nominated by their supervisors or peers to participate in the six-month class series. The class year kicks off in January with a retreat to strengthen each person’s
personal leadership style and to set the standard for the remainder of the class term..
The class sessions are held once monthly for a full day of presentations and tours. Topics covered include Diversity
Training, Health and Human Services, Education and Communications, Courts and Public Safety, Business and Economic Development, and Arts and Cultural Affairs. The course culminates in a Graduation and Recognition
ceremony in late June each year.
